When Analia joined our herd at the end of last year, she was insecure, timid, standoffish and fearful. In the months since then, we've watched her completely blossom! She LOVES her "job" and she's great at it.... she's often the horse that gets picked for a session because she's the first one now to approach people when they arrive. She loves being in a herd where she's finally accepted and not bullied. She has impacted so many people's lives since joining our team, and now she needs our help!
Last Wed. she showed normal signs of colic. The vet came out, tubed her and did all the usual colic treatments. In the middle of the night and the next morning, Analia still wasn't ok, so we brought her to the vet clinic for blood work and fluids. I thought I'd be bringing her home with me that same day. Instead, she's been there ever since.
Long story short, she has a lot of inflammation that's affecting her small intestines, calcium levels, white blood cell count, and kidneys. They think what happened is that what started out as a typical colic, ended up causing the inflammation, which ended up causing sepsis.
It was not looking good for her, but the vet said most horses respond within 3 days to being on fluids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, calcium, etc. So we had to give her a fighting chance!
Yesterday was Day 2 and she wasn't responding to any of the treatment but was actually getting worse. With a grieving heart, I was prepared to make the call to have her be put down. But then the vet said that one of her key numbers had greatly decreased and this was a potentially really hopeful sign, so we decided she needed one more day.
Today is Day 3. I haven't yet heard from the vet. Please pray that the decision becomes absolutely clear -- that we can take her home, or that it's time to let her go. We don't want to prolong the inevitable, and we certainly don't want to put her through any unnecessary discomfort. But if her body is trying to fight and is showing signs of improvement, we can't give up on her, we will fight for her!
We need your help though please! We need your prayers, and we need your financial help! We've exceeded our emergency budget by $5000.
Any and all donations will be much appreciated!!!
Thank you so much for your support of us and of Analia right now!! She's part of the family, a member of our herd, and a vital part of this ministry, and we will invest in her and fight for her as long as she's showing signs of improvement!
I will send out an update soon! You're welcome to email or text me if you'd like an update sooner though. 720.237.1235 or thesonandreinsranch@gmail.com
Thank you so much for your prayers!!
