What is Essiac Tea?
Essiac is a trademark for a Native American tea made of burdock root, red clover, rhubarb, and sheep sorrel. It was popularized by Canadian nurse Rene Caisse. Historically it has been used to fight inflammation, scurvy, and diarrhea. Most exciting, just as scientists at MD Anderson Center are finding that the spice turmeric thwarts cancer growth, the active ingredients in Essiac may also be able to give cancer cells a “biological smack down.”
Loaded with naturally occurring compounds such as glycosides, anthraquinones tannins as well as vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, K, the tea works to modulate hormones that help the immune system fight off infection and cancer growth. Recent studies also show that it lowers blood sugar, therefore causing sugar-craving cancer cells to commit cell suicide.
