Early Memories Run Deep
Yes. By the time I got to 4th grade, I had mastered the soccer ball. I never passed it. I never played my position. I just took the ball, ran like hell, and scored. That was...until a mid-fielder stopped me in my tracks.
Not only did he stop me, but he would steal the ball, shoot from “outer space,” and score. Dafuq? We became best friend instantly. Then we found out we shared the same birthday. Done deal. We became partners in crime.
As we grew up, Doug was the scholar and the athlete. I was the troublemaker. He was a master chameleon. I gave zero f@#cks. And it didn’t play out well for me. Multiple suspensions, run-ins with the police, and even jail time were the fruits of my attitude.
Still, we always acted as each other’s biggest fans...until we were rolling on the ground, fighting. (Neither one of us could stomach hitting each other, but choking, fish hooks, and wrist locks were all fair game.) Fighting or not, we always figured shit out.
Doug has always had a lot to give to those around him...and that’s probably why we’ve stayed best friends..
Max Potential
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always gravitated to people with massive potential. Not only do I love learning from them and maximizing my own potential, but I also love pulling more out of them...and myself.
