10 Painkiller Facts Your Doctor Doesn’t Know About

By Jeff Milano, CEO ThePeoplesChemist.com

I know what it feels like to be out of options. I’ve been paralyzed by headaches. And NOTHING would come close to handling them.

It was so bad that if someone offered to relieve them by chiseling a hole in my head, I would have braced myself with a bottle of Jack Daniels and said, "Let's do it!" I felt hopeless.

But since learning about 10 painkiller facts courtesy of The People’s Chemist.com, I no longer have to put my life at risk while relieving pain – headaches, muscle soreness, or even the occasional hangover.

Fact #1: Child Overdose is Too Common

It’s very easy for children to overdose on Tylenol. The difference between a "dose" and a fatal "overdose" is small. If children take twice the normal dose over a short period of time - a very small margin of error - liver damage will result.

Fact #2: Painkillers are adulterated with Cancer Causing Toxins

Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl & Sudafed were recalled on March 30, 2011 due to an uncharacteristic odor.

The odor is caused by trace amounts of potential carcinogens – cancer causing compounds – such as sucrose and inositol, which allow the tablet to dissolve at a faster rate and give the drugs a pleasant taste. In addition, flavoring agents, such as saccharin, and coloring agents are added to chewable tablets. The colorants currently approved in the United States include: FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Red No.3, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Blue No. 2, FD&C Green No. 3, a limited number of D&C colorants, and iron oxides.

Fact #3: Liver and Kidney Damage is Common, Not Rare

According to the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, 50,000 people per year are treated in an emergency room due to taking Tylenol due to serious liver and kidney damage.

Fact #4: Motrin causes more Headaches

Motrin's side effects include: constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, gas and HEADACHE.

How do you know if your headache is the one you started with or a side effect?

Fact #5: Tylenol Causes Headaches and More

Tylenol's side effects include: constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; excitability; HEADACHE; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness or anxiety; trouble sleeping; upset stomach; vomiting and weakness.

Pick 6 of those and ask yourself if you really want them all happening at the same time, instead of just having your original headache…

Fact #6: Experts are no longer recommending Aspirin

According to the Wall Street Journal, “...medical experts say some people who are taking aspirin on a regular basis should think about stopping. Public-health officials are scaling back official recommendations for the painkiller to target a narrower group of patients who are at risk of a heart attack or stroke. The concern is that aspirin's side effects, which can include bleeding ulcers, might outweigh the potential benefits when taken by many healthy or older people.”

Fact #7: Tylenol #1 cause of Liver Failure

According to Dr. Gerald Dal Pan, Director of the FDA's Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology admits that Tylenol and Acetaminophen overdose is the Number 1 cause of "acute" (sudden) liver failure in the US.

You can't live without a liver for more than about a day, so if it fails you fail too.

Fact #8: Easy for Adults to Overdose

Discussing the overdose potential of common painkillers, Dr. Pan says, "It is much easier than you would think!" He explains that people who suffer from long term pain or who regularly drink alcohol; people who are on diets, the elderly and even heavy caffeine drinkers who take the SUGGESTED dose of acetaminophen (including Tylenol, Lortab, Percocet or Vicoden) have been found to suffer liver damage over time.

Fact #9: Aspirin Risks do not outweigh Benefits

Aspirin doesn’t protect against heart attack or stroke!

Fact #10: Your Doctor Doesn’t Know about the Natural Alternatives

Natural pain killers do in fact exist that melt pain, FAST, without a single side effect!
