Subject: Hmm...Which parent is right? 🤔

Hello!

Valerie from The Happy Violinist!

Today, I need your help to tell me who is right.

As you know, I'm part of the organizing team behind the Happy Music Recitals, festivals, and other performance opportunities over the past few years.

In previous newsletters, I shared that we have multiple student recitals planned out for this year and next year.

On a same day, I received very different responses from two parents.

Let’s call them Parent A and Parent B.

Parent A said, “I’m hesitating to let my child perform on stage because he may have stage fright, as he’s never performed before.”

Parent B said, “Whenever you have a recital, just tell me. I’ll get my child to perform. He enjoys it and doesn’t seem to know what stage fright is.”

I was caught between these two perspective, and it made me think about how stage fright affects each child differently.

Parent A wants to protect their child from feeling uncomfortable on stage. That’s completely understandable. But avoiding the stage might also mean missing out on a valuable chance to grow and gain confidence.

Parent B’s child, meanwhile, loves performing and doesn’t even know what stage fright is-yet.

For some kids, the stage is a playground. But even confident kids may feel nervous one day, and building a supportive environment can help them navigate those feelings.

So, who is right?

I think both are right in their own way.

I'm thinking...what if we can encourage every child to perform, knowing that stage fright is normal but also emphasizing the joy and growth that come from performing?

That’s why for every recital I organize, we ensure a positive and supportive environment where all students feel safe to perform—whether they’re just starting out or already love the stage.

And kids and adult performers enjoy our recitals so far!

I believe with each performance, they’re not only sharing their music but also building courage and confidence that will serve them well beyond the recital hall.

Meanwhile, we are currently planning the recitals for 2025.

Will keep you updated soon :)
