Scrolling through an online reptile forum the other day, there it was again: Another person repeating the common notion that dubia roaches cause gout in bearded dragons.
"So," you might be wondering. "I've heard that too. Could it be true?"
At this point, you may be expecting us to launch straight into denial mode.
But that's not how we roll around here.
Truth is, there is a correlation between dubia roaches and gout.
AND, here's what every reptile owner should know:
Correlation is NOT the same as causation! Yes, there's a connection. But don't blame the dubias! It has more to do with what you feed them.
As it turns out, there is one specific thing you can eliminate from a dubia roach's diet to ensure that it does NOT cause gout in bearded dragons and other reptiles.
