"Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I want to invoke for you two scenes from my experience with Padrinho Alfredo Gregorio de Melo, the lineage holder of our branch of the spiritual tree of the Daime.
Scene 1- A small group of people is walking through the Amazon forest that surrounds Ceu do Mapia. Padrinho Alfredo is taking us on a tour of his home, or as he calls it, “the Kingdom of the Queen.” We are walking as quietly as possible, when a bird begins to sing loudly above us. We stop and listen. And then Padrinho Alfredo begins singing back to the bird. They begin a dialogue that lasts for some minutes. The rest of us stand in awe.
Scene 2- I am sitting in a clearing in the forest, what Padrinho Alfredo calls his “Jardim de Natureza.” I am there with Padrinho Alfredo and Alex Polari. We are talking about many things covering many levels of our world. There is a brief pause in the conversation. Padrinho Alfredo looks at me and says, “Do you know what the most destructive thing on earth is?” "No, Padrinho, tell me.” “Vengeance”, he says. “Vengeance make peace and cooperation impossible.”
I am relating these two among the many stories that people from all over the world could tell about the multi-faceted, multi-talented, brilliant, highly evolved man that is Padrinho Alfredo. The first incident taught me something in person that Padrinho Alfredo’s hymns convey in the salão; He observes and experiences the world through the eyes of a fully integrated part of Nature. He knows himself intimately and feels himself totally to be OF Nature. He sees the patterns, the relationships, the living, intelligent forces of Nature, and he includes humans and our world of illusion in that circle. This gives him a unique, utterly non-ideological view of our world. Which then allows him to sift through the overwhelming amount of thoughts, ideas and options that fly around the world, and see that the key to our progress as humans is to cure ourselves of the addiction to Vengeance.
And he then travels the world bringing that unique, harmonious, vital perspective to those of us who are lucky enough to recognize and make use of the immense opportunity to drink Daime with him. It’s not about what he says, although he is articulate and a supreme gentleman. It’s about being able to receive the force of the Amazon Forest - the origin of life and the origin of the Daime - in our churches in the diaspora and in our consciousness.
Padrinho Alfredo and his group will be in Ashland, Oregon at the invitation of the Church of the Holy Light of the Queen for two works, Friday, April 20th and Saturday, April 21st. We are honored to receive them and we will be honored to receive you to be part of this healing celebration. Help us celebrate our linkage to the forest, to the origin of the Daime and nine years since our victory that freed the Holy Daime from government interference.
