Thank you so much for all the prayers and contributions in support of our dear sister Queenie. I wanted to give you an update on how things are going.
Queenie had her first hip replacement on March 24th, and has done well since then. Progress is slow because she is still very much limited by the pain in the other hip, but she worked hard in rehab and is able to do much more than before the surgery.
Currently she is in a home-based assisted living run by a very caring woman, and will need to stay there until she has her second hip surgery. (Her Medicare coverage for nursing home/rehab was used up by the stays after the broken ankle and the first hip replacement, so she needs to be out of the nursing home for 60 days so that it will reset and allow her to receive rehab after the second hip replacement.) She is in good spirits, and so looking forward to the second hip surgery and a chance to be pain free and on her feet again. We are hoping the second surgery can be scheduled by July or so.
Your $8000 in contributions have helped us to pay for her transportation ($150-200 per trip, and there have been innumerable doctors’ visits) and for the assisted living which is $3400 per month. (Queenie is contributing significantly to the cost of the assisted living as well.) This has been a godsend as Queenie could not have gone back to her apartment due to the many stairs and her limited mobility.
While we need funds to be able to pay for transportation and assisted living over the next 3 months, we know many of you have already contributed as much as you are able, and for this we are deeply grateful. If there are those of you who feel that you could contribute again, it would make a huge difference in helping Queenie get her life back.
The great news is that after the second hip surgery and rehab, (now scheduled for August 25th, although we hope to move it up to July) there is every reason to believe that Queenie will be able to live independently again, not to mention eventually being able to walk, drive, and dance! Please hold this vision with us, of Queenie restored to her full life, living independently, with her beloved cat, Fritz, by her side.
