| | Welcoming 2020 from the CHLQ Board
"Happy New Year! This is the time of year to firm your intentions, aspirations, hopes, wishes and dreams for the coming year. At our Annual meeting on January 19th, we, the Church of the Holy Light of the Queen, will be doing just that.
It is at this time of year that we ask our members to renew their pledges of financial support for the Church of the Holy Light of the Queen. We especially invite all fardados and fardadas, and all regular attendees, to become members of our church. We view a member as a person who makes a regular monthly tithe contribution. The recommended monthly tithe is $150. For those who are unable to afford that, we hope you can tithe at least $100 each month. Tithing members do not make additional contributions at each work, unless there are special type of works in which we are all asked to contribute more, such as when we have fundraisers, or STW’s, or Brasilian visitors. We of course understand that there are circumstances where a person cannot pay $100 per month. If you are one of those people, and you want to make a monthly contribution to formalize your CHLQ membership, please speak to a member of the church board. We will make an arrangement. For example, we welcome people tithing 10% of their monthly income as a powerful way to show your support of our church, as well as affirm your own prosperity.
Why is tithing important? The church needs steady financial support. We have real costs. CHLQ has chosen to import all of our Sacrament from Brasil. We have cultivated mutually beneficial relationships with several Santo Daime churches who make excellent Daime specifically for us. In addition to the compensation given to our Brasilian partners, there are significant costs involved in transporting our Sacrament from the Amazon to Ashland. Other non Daime expenses include rent, church supplies, a great office administrator, utilities, and on and on. We will discuss the cost of running the Church budget at the upcoming meeting.
Another benefit of being a member is that you are granted the privilege of voting in church elections, such as the one that will be occurring at our Annual Meeting on Jan 19th. If that is important to you, become a tithing member.
We are asking you to look at what you are receiving from your participation in the Church of the Holy Light of the Queen. What are you gaining from the Holy Daime? It is the experience of many in our church, that if you express your gratitude and appreciation for what you are receiving, by personally and tangibly giving as much as you can, you receive far more in return, both spiritually and through increased financial abundance in your own life. Please consider becoming a tithing member.
We will have tithe pledge forms available at upcoming Works, or you can contact the office at CHLQcomm@gmail to have one mailed to you.
Thank you! And thank you all for your serious consideration,
Your CHLQ Board members,
David, Eden, Adama, Beverly, Bruce, Jane, and Jonathan" |
| | | "My Brothers and Sisters,
I have some questions for our contemplation. They are in relation to the question of sin and forgiveness. We are in a time of year where we celebrate and contemplate the arrival on earth of a person who is said to have forgiven, by his embodiment of the Universal Christ, the ones who beat him, tortured him, scorned him, mocked him, and killed him in a most cruel manner. He also forgave his disciples, some of whom betrayed and denied him in the face of their own confusion and fears. In my own miração, he showed me the as he was hanging on the cross, he emitted total love to all who were present, friend and enemy, and all those of us who would come later to learn from his example and receive the same Light he embodied and served. And he teaches us through the Daime that forgiveness is not just an act. It is The Way. And so my questions concern our own small mission in the line of Christ. Where do we draw the line? Whose past sins, or accused sins, are worthy of exclusion and condemnation, and who gets to stay around, repent, and heal themselves because their particular sin doesn’t trigger someone strongly enough for them to demand the exclusion of the sinner? What about those in our circle who have done violence? What about those who have acted out sexually in harmful ways and now are coming to drink Daime to repent and seek forgiveness and to embody their higher nature? What about those who have stolen and scammed? What about those of us who have cheated and lied? What about sins of omission as well as commission? And what about past lives, where I know that people in our circle have done some very serious harm that they are cleaning in this life? Where do we draw the line on sin and who can be forgiven? And from where- here now, in this place, in this time, where none of us are being abused or abusing- do we draw our safety? Do we choose to trust, until we actually do trust, the Light that we claim to love and receive and cherish and serve, because the alternative is to isolate ourselves and feed our trauma loop, and been there, done that? Do we trust that the current is being held with integrity and strength and humility and courage and clarity, and commit ourselves to being holders of it, with all of our weaknesses and mistakes, for ourselves and others, engaging our adult, not-traumatized selves so that our young, hurt selves can come into that Light? Do I trust what the hymns say and what my religion teaches me; that when I submit myself to that Light, my sins will be revealed and then forgiven if I allow the space for it?
That to me is the path of repentance and forgiveness and redemption.; to “ Receive everyone who arrives, Do what (HE/She) tells (me) to do, Don’t let them do whatever they want, Wait for the day (He/She) arrives.” Which to me means when the Christ arrives fully in my heart and becomes one with me. It’s not an idea, or just a bunch of words in a song. It’s a profound process that I am engaged in for my own salvation and in which I am committed to providing the space for anyone who wants to do their version of the same. Receiving whoever shows up also means receiving whatever shows up in me. That includes my own traumas, my own triggered emotions, my own opinions and beliefs and judgements about myself and others. It means calling all of that into Light in the ceremonies I attend and support and in my daily life. That commitment to co-create a safe place for whoever wishes to come and sincerely heal themselves is not meant to exclude anyone. But it is a clear mandate that I feel in my heart and higher will.
In the Daime we make “fine studies”, which means that we look at these question from many angles, from the personal to the cosmic. Everything that happens in a Daime work, and for those of us who consider the Daime our “ …life, path and professor”, everything that happens in our lives, is an occasion for making a study,. To me that means seeking to look through my inner eyes of Christ at what is being shown to me about myself and about the path I've been called to and agreed walk. The point is to learn and grow as a maturing, increasingly spiritualized student. These questions are important at any time, but especially in this time when criticism and wholesale condemnation are so ubiquitous. Where do we place ourselves and our small spiritual healing offering on the spectrum of justice and forgiveness?
Love and Light to all of us. May the Peace, and a piece, of Christ bloom in our hearts."

"Padrinho Sebastião believed that the right strategy in this battle was for each one to arrive, through a more or less thorny experience of karma, to the understanding of the possibility in our present life for man to see woman as the presence of the Supreme Virgin and for woman to see man as the image of Christ. And for that there are many pathways."
