"The aromatic profile of sweet cocoa and light fruitiness is wonderful and followed with a shockingly refreshing drinkability when you drink it."

---Gabe Jackson

Judge Comments:

"Supremely crushable. Chocolate and roasted aromas explode out of the glass. I'll have 3 more please! Sooo smooth."

---Joe Hanson-Hirt

The Schwarz is with you, Bob!

Bob lives in Sebastopol and has been brewing for a little over 10 years.  He  got started when his wife bought him a brewing kit for Father’s Day.  Since then he has kept up the hobby, enjoying all types of beers except sours.  This is the first time he has brewed a Schwarzbier, and ALSO the first time he has won a homebrew competition.  The mojo is working, Bob!  Keep it up!

As a brewer, he finds inspiration when family and friends make beer requests for him to try brewing.   On this batch of Skywalker Schwarzbier Black Lager, he reports that he followed the directions pretty closely since it was his first time with the style.  He was precise with his mini mash, used a wort chiller for efficient cooling, and kit his FG spot on at 1.015.  After 14 days in primary, he allowed another 14 days in secondary, then bottled 2 gallons and kegged 3 gallons---ready for home consumption and sharing.

From his experience, he has found it useful to keep a close eye on the consistency of mash temperature and, of course, good sterilization of the equipment.  He encourages us all to have friends and family challenge us on different types of beers to try, and have fun experimenting with different recipes.  Way to go, Bob, with this new experiment of your own which has won our May competition!
