There is a Great Disturbance in the Force...of Brewing Yeast

GigaYeast is Closing

What to Expect Now

  • GigaYeast Closed Effective July 16 After 10 years serving the craft beer community, they are shutting down all operations.

  • Imperial Yeast Now Available - At The Beverage People, we have selected Imperial Yeast as the replacement in our store. We anticipate that this will be the smoothest and most successful transition for our brewers. Please review the new strains below. They are now in stock.

  • Wyeast Summer Seasonal Yeasts - 3463 PC Forbidden Fruit, 3942 PC Belgian Wheat, 5151 PC Brettanomyces clasussenii.

Thank you, GigaYeast, for years of great beers!

A note extracted from the announcement by GigaYeast President Jim Withee:

After 10 years of success, a few fails and the privilege of being part of the Craft Beer community GigaYeast is closing.  We are shutting down all operations effective July 16th, 2021.

It's important everyone know we are not closing due to COVID or financial problems.  We are leaving on top, and it is simply time to turn the page.  My deepest thanks to all of you and we'll see you down the road for a pint!

WYEAST SEASONAL RELEASES

Belgian Summer
Available from July through September 2021

Available as Pre-Order Only

3463 Forbidden Fruit - Private Collection Strain
A widely used strain in the production of Witbier and Grand Cru. This yeast will produce spicy phenolics which are balanced nicely by a complex ester profile. The subtle fruit character and dry tart finish will complement wheat malt, orange peel and spice additions typical of Wits .

3942 Belgian Wheat - Private Collection
Isolated from a small Belgian brewery, this strain produces beers with moderate esters and minimal phenolics. Apple, bubblegum and plum-like aromas blend nicely with malt and hops. This strain will finish dry with a hint of tartness.
5151 Brettanomyces Claussenii - Private Collection
This wild yeast produces a mild “Brett” character with overtones of tropical fruit and pineapple.
