Hunting advocates moving to encourage TWRA or state Legislators to modify hunting options for landowners and hunters
MOVEMENT TO CHANGE TWRA's by regulation or legislation

Attention TFA Members:

There is a movement by some hunters who are seeking to expand weapon options for Tennessee hunters.   If you are interested in expanding these options, please consider the following and, if supportive, please contact the TWRA (instructions listed below) and show your support for these two proposals to be made to the Tennessee Wildlife Commission for review and passage:

Proposal 1:

Propose to amend TCA 70-2-204 to allow landowners as described in TCA 70-2-204 to use hunting weapon of choice once archery season is over, still abiding by harvest limits and quota’s set for each hunting region and zone. This is currently being done in the CWD Zone, and this would extend this to all hunters across the state who are landowners as defined in the TCA code. This will have no fiscal impact on TWRA as landowners are not required to purchase licenses. This has been law for quite some time in Mississippi

Proposal 2:

Propose to change the current Muzzleloader season to a Muzzleloader/Handgun/Shotgun season to add the usage of handguns and shotguns during the now current muzzleloader only season. This will allow the usage of other short range firearms that are ballistically inferior to current modern muzzleloaders that are on the market, and allow other methods for new hunters to more comfortably hunt during this time frame, provide for easier training of new hunters and allow hunters with difficulties or impairments that may limit their usage with a muzzleloader to have other ways to hunt during this time frame. This would only require a language change of the season and license title in the licensing system. This change would not have any negative license sales impact, only positive license sales impacts. Similar provisions exist in several border states of Tennessee and have been successful and positive to their states.

Send your support for these proposals by copying and pasting the language or copying and pasting into a word document for mailing directly to TWRA

These proposals and support for the proposals must be made no later than close of business February 15, 2022
