In Governor Bill Lee's Special Session he is proposing "pre-crime" concepts as a basis for denial of constitutionally protected rights.

Once the science fiction of fictional movies like Minority Report, the concept of "pre-crime" is central to proposals by Republican Governor Bill Lee as he demands passage of a Red Flag law in his Special Session.

In the fictional movie version,
clairvoyant humans have psychic impressions of impending homicides which impressions are then used by the government to arrest the perpetrator before the crime even occurs.  At least in the fictional system, the focus is on removing the individual who is the risk from the community.  In Bill Lee's vision, the government would leave the dangerous person in the community because his agenda is gun control and not seeking to deal with the risk predicted risk that might in the future occur at the hands of the dangerous individual.

While Minority Report was science fiction, Bill Lee's proposal is a real and present fact.  One that presents a constitutional crisis for Tennesseans and those in other states.

There is no dispute that Bill Lee is proposing a gun control agenda that seeks to predict who might commit a crime (including targeting those who are classified as alcoholics or drug addicts).  There is no requirement that a criminal court find that the person has committed a crime.  There is no requirement that in a jury trial the person has been found to be mentally defective.  Bill Lee seeks to implement "pre-crime" as a reality, not just as science fiction for the limited purpose of entertainment.

Because Bill Lee and those who support him in his support of implementing "pre-crime", a system commonly referred to as a "Red Flag law" or an "extreme risk protection order", Tennessee Firearms Association has initiated operation "Red Flag Down" to shut down Bill Lee's call for pre-crime laws in Tennessee.

A recent poll concludes that 84% of voters say a dangerous individual should be removed from the community rather than taking their guns and leaving the individual in the community. indeed, support for Red Flag laws like that proposed by Bill lee drops substantially when voters are informed that the Red Flag law leaves threatening individuals in the community, failing to prevent harm by some other means.  A substantial majority of voters responded that said that current laws should be enforced to take dangerous people out of the community rather than passing new ones that would leave them in the neighborhood.

The clear result of the poll is that when people are told the truth that a pre-crime law like Bill Lee's Red Flag law fails to remove the alleged dangerous person from being at large in the community, that support for the Red Flag proposal drops substantially.

To move forward with the TFALAC's Red Flag Down mission, tt is critical that Tennesseans and conservatives across the nation step up and fight back against Bill Lee's Special Session to make sure that it is stopped, to make sure that he is stopped and to make sure his template for Red Flag laws are not spread to other "Red" states.

The Tennessee Firearms Association Legislative Action Committee estimates that a state wide, saturation advertising effort to tell the truth about what Bill Lee's Special Session seeks to do could require $150,000 or more. If you are ready to fight against Bill Lee's Special Session and to defeat his Red Flag threat in our state, we want and need your support of the #RedFlagDown mission.

First, please consider making a contribution to the TFALAC to help raise the funds for the advertising blitz.   We want it to be the "shot heard around the state" but that takes commitment.

Second, please consider attending the TFALAC's Annual Event in 2023.  We want to have a large turnout to get the attention of those legislators and, hopefully, to celebrate the defeat of the Red Flag agenda.   But, we also will need to raise money to try and defeat those Legislators who support Bill Lee's Special Session and his gun control agenda when they run for re-election in 2024.
