Tennessee's Gun Laws Must Be Made Constitutionally Compliant For many years, TFA has urged Legislators to remove unconstitutional infringements on the rights of Tennessee's citizens as protected by the Second Amendment.
We have urged the passage of REAL Constitutional Carry but the Legislature has refused over and over and over again. These legislators - including the Republican super majority for the last 12 years - have enacted and protected laws that are clear infringements of the rights protected by both the state and federal constitutions.
We have also urged the repeal and elimination of "gun free zones" because those zones, with very limited exceptions such as perhaps inside a prison, are clear infringements on the rights of individuals to provide for their own self-defense. Yet, the Legislature again has enacted and preserved gun free zones and in some instances made them so confusing that they are likely unconstitutionally vague even if otherwise permissible.
It is time to demand that those who will hold office in 2023 move quickly to address these clear constitutional defects in Tennessee law. Will they do it? They will if Tennesseans, enough Tennesseans demand it.
