Rep. Jerry Sexton takes on the Tennessee Sheriffs' Association over opposition to Constitutional Carry Legislation On February 24, 2021, the Tennessee Sheriffs' Association presented a
statement to the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee in opposition to
two bills which have the capacity to implement Constitutional Carry.
Not
only did the Tennessee Sheriffs' Association oppose the proposed
legislation but it also asked for increased restrictions on existing
law, such as concealment requirements and "implied consent" conditions
which would allow officers to stop, make inquiry and potentially even
search an individual merely because they had a firearm. (See letter
from Tennessee Sheriffs' Association linked on the TFA's
website post)
Rep.
Jerry Sexton was "offended" by the positions that the Tennessee
Sheriffs' Association, and presumably its members, had presented. The
video is a full clip of his statements.
TFA
applauds Rep. Jerry Sexton on his comments and his prioritization not
only of a clear constitutional principle but also his willingness to
hold other elected officials accountable on their oaths. We know that
there are other elected members of the General Assembly who stand with
Rep. Sexton on this and want to let them know that they have the support
of the Tennessee Firearms Association as we work together to remove the
infringements on your rights in Tennessee.
