Tennessee Firearms Association volunteers have been busy reading and
flagging legislation to be tracked in 2023. At present, there are 67
bills that have been identified for tracking. Several of those bills
are “caption bills” which appear to do insignificant or immaterial
things but they were selected because they indicate the intent to amend
many portions of the existing statutes including the ones where firearms
related legislation typically exist (Title 39). A list of these bills
and preliminary assessments on some for support or opposition, which is a long PDF, are
posted on the TFA's website in today's news post.
In addition, two of the bills are already on
calendar to be heard the week of February 6. One is in the Senate and
the other is in the House. The House bill is significant because it
would amend the state constitution relative to the right to keep and
bear arms.
As these bills start to move forward in the Tennessee
Legislature, it is important for 2nd Amendment advocates in and even
those who live outside of Tennessee to let the Legislators know that
they are demanding that all infringements on the rights protected by the
2nd and 14th Amendment be removed this year. To do that, it is
critical to let your voice be heard and TFA has provided
this advocacy
tool to help in that regard. Use it to contact your legislators –
particularly since you are able to edit the message to express your
demands in your own words.
If you are aware of other bills that you think TFA should consider tracking, please let us know soon.
