UPDATED - Contact your Legislators now to SUPPORT HB2082 and SB2502 to REPEAL Tennessee's "intent to go armed" statute
The Senate and House are both moving this legislation forward with almost exclusively Republican support. However, it is near the end of session and time is running out. The Legislature needs to suspend the rules and move this bills forward to the floors now or they could be defeated by simply running out of time.
Both of these bills have been AMENDED at this point to do two important things:
- eliminate the "intent to go armed" clause in TCA 39-17-1307(a) which would result in Tennessee become very, very close to REAL constitutional carry; and
- eliminating the 2021 "permitless carry" law in TCA 39-17-1307(g) because it would no longer be needed.
If you already have your legislators' cell numbers, start calling and texting now. Insist that they co-sponsor HB2082 or SB2502 respectively and that they take action now to get these signed into law early enough so that even a Bill Lee veto can be addressed!
If you don't have their cell numbers (why not?) or in addition, please consider using the TFA's email letter generator.
