House Hearings Today That Could Move Constitutional Carry Legislation Forward In Tennessee.
The House Criminal Justice Subcommittee meets today at 5:00 p.m. There are two bills on that schedule that either adopt or could be amended to adopt true constitutional carry. House Bill 18 and House Bill 786.
When we say "true Constitutional Carry" we mean a law that says "anyone who can legally possess a firearm can carry it". It is that simple. It has to be simple because its a right that the Constitution declares "shall not be infringed". Anything beyond simple introduces infringements.
As filed, HB18 is a true constitutional carry bill. HB786, as filed, is better than current law but it needs amendments to make it true constitutional carry.
The members of the subcommittee who will be deciding whether one or both of these will be moving forward today are listed below. These legislators also have the first opportunity to amend these bills, if needed, to make them both true constitutional carry bills. Most of these legislators are already in support of Constitutional Carry so the message needs to be "please pass REAL Constitutional Carry - Pass a law that allows any person who can legally possess a firearm to carry that firearm."
It is critical to make these calls TODAY before 4:30 p.m. CST.
