There are a small number of bills in the categories being tracked by TFA that are presently showing activity in the General Assembly.  The list below is only the bills that have had any activity in the last 6 days.

TFA's primary focus in 2016 is on passage of constitutional carry and the elimination of gun free zones.  There are at least two bills that would implement constitutional carry. What we are hearing is that there is some interest in the bills but only if they are amended to include training requirements, possible background check requirements and even a state maintained database of who has met the training requirements and background check.  Yes.  We have legislators saying that they would support constitutional carry legislation if it was amended to make it a permitting law.  If you think we need constitutional carry enacted as "constitutional carry" - and not just another permitting process - then you should call you legislators and try to explain to them that constitutional carry means its your "right" and the state cannot and should not impose training requirements, background checks, fees, or even a state database.

Several bills addressing gun free zones were heard in Senate Judiciary this week.  John Lott Jr. testified in support of the bills that were designed to eliminate or reduce the number of gun free zones.  The sponsors on those bills were Sen. Gresham and Sen. Bell.  The sponsors on those bills rolled them for two weeks in order to discuss possible amendments to the bills.  It may be telling to learn what types of amendments are being requested and by whom.

The bills marked in Green are supported by TFA, those in Blue are being watched but TFA has not taken a position, and those in Red are opposed at this time as written.

Please review these bills carefully.  Feel free to go to the TFA Facebook group and ask questions or advocate for or against the bills you like.

Make the time to communicate with your legislators. Call them and ask questions.  Ask them to sponsor bills you like or appose the ones that you think are not constitutionally sound or, if sound, good public policy.

If you do not already know your legislators or have their phone and email numbers handy, you can get this information on the Legislature's "Find my Legislator" page.
