Subject: Pete Weldon's Participation in the Winter Park Voice Debate

Dear Friend,

I was grateful to see many of you at the Rollins Candidate Forum last evening!

Thank-you!

Here's a news flash! Tonight you have the night off from debates!

Here's why: It's been no secret that many have challenged Winter Park Voice's claim of transparency and objective journalism. Yesterday, Seat 3 candidate Lambrine Macejewski announced she was withdrawing from their debate and outlined her reasons. After reviewing the facts, I decided to take a stand. So, I challenged Anne Mooney, editor of Winter Park Voice, to be as transparent as she demands of others and reveal her financiers by noon today. If not, I would also withdraw from their debate. Needless to say, she has not been forthcoming.

The "straw that broke the camel's back" was Mooney's recent post about Carolyn Cooper's defense of her vote for a commissioner pay raise. To read my response and full explanation click here for the text of my letter to Anne Mooney.

Next, truth being stranger than fiction, one known Winter Park Voice benefactor, Steve Goldman, who contributed the $1,000 maximum to both Carolyn Cooper and my opponent Tom McMacken, sent me an electronic contribution of $1,000 not 40 minutes after I sent my letter to Anne Mooney! What do you make of that? I immediately voided his contribution. Too fishy for me.

While not directly related to my campaign for seat 4, I feel strongly that candidates make a public commitment to transparency in Winter Park politics and will be moving on to the next debate (see below).

Another day on the campaign trail...

Sincerely,

PS: Two remaining public debates are scheduled as follows:

Friday, February 12 at 8 AM - Winter Park Chamber Debate, Winter Park Welcome Center, 151 W. Lyman Ave.

Friday, February 19 at Noon - Winter Park Library Debate, 460 E. New England Ave.
