I am excited to share that we are covering the full width of the United States from New York & Pennsylvania all the way to Hawaii, and Canada! Including your instructors, we will be representing four countries, including Elsabe Hurn from South Africa and Martha Schuster from Australia. I couldn't be more honored to host this worldwide event.

Meet Our Sure Fit Designs Retreat Team!

Elsabe Hurn, Martha Schuster, Janine Smith and Kym Wheeler will be working with you throughout the retreat. Kym Wheeler is our Canadian representative and my dear friend. We are so excited to host this event and are committed to giving you the best experience possible.

Your Next Steps

  • Once you have your travel arrangements made, please email me your expected arrival time in Salem, Oregon and your means of transportation. If you are arriving at the Holiday Inn via Groome Transportation, we will meet you at the Holiday Inn and drive you to The Holman Riverfront Hotel and get you checked in.

  • Please send me pictures of you from the front, side and back.

What To Bring

  • Bring your relevant kits and designing books for the course(s) you have signed up for

  • Your Designing Stylus

  • Garments for your measuring session. Nothing compressive and the bra that you usually wear.

  • Your most recent sloper and test garment you have worked on

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes for standing and sitting all day.

  • This really is pretty much all you need...I've taken care of the rest.

What to Expect

After I receive your arrival time, let me know how much time you will need to settle in and will schedule a measuring appointment together. Your appointment will occur in your hotel room, giving you privacy and an opportunity to share any fitting challenges you have been having. It is our goal to have everyone measured prior to the Bodice and Pants fitting Course start times at 8:00 am.

If you are not staying at the hotel and are commuting locally, please let me know so we can make arrangements prior to courses beginning to schedule your appointment.

We will work together as a group step-by-step throughout the process and we are prepared to work with every level of skill, from beginner to advanced. Courses are scheduled from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily. We are planning to set aside 4:30-6:00 pm to work with anyone who needs additional help. Anyone who is caught up is welcome to stay and use the room to work independently on their projects.

I am providing Brother computerized sewing machines that you will share with one sewing machine buddy. Everything from notebooks, pencils, rotary cutters, etc. will be provided. It is my goal to make this a truly memorable event and a treat to yourself.

Flying Safety Suggestions

I'd love to share a few tips on staying healthy while traveling. Having taken several international flights post-Covid and working Operating Room environment, I've managed to stay well and avoid illness including Covid. Of course, everyone's approach to health and safety is personal, so I encourage you to do what feels best for you. Most importantly, I truly appreciate the investment you've made to attend our retreat and want you to have the best experience possible.

  • I choose to turn off the overhead airflow vent during flights. While airplane HEPA filters are highly effective, I've read that Covid particles can be smaller than the filter's capability. To minimize exposure to recirculated air, I prefer to close the vent.

  • It may be helpful to keep a few disposable masks in your pocket for easy access during your flight. If someone nearby starts coughing, you might feel more comfortable putting one on while in your seat.

  • Before I travel I take a daily multiple vitamin and add extra Vitamin C & D for a few days to support my immune system.

  • I like to take Airborne supplements a few days before I fly to give my immune system an extra boost. If you are considering taking Airborne, it's always a good idea to check with your doctor, especially if you're on any medications like blood thinners.

Lunch Is My Treat!

Each day I will be providing lunch along with daily coffee service with a rotating menu based on preferences. Since we're a small group, we'll have one main meal option each day and will do our best to accommodate everyone. If there are any options you'd prefer to skip, just let me know, I want to ensure you have an enjoyable dining experience.

Soup & Salad Lunch: We will have two choices of soup: Broccoli Cheddar, Vegetarian Garden, Gumbo or Chicken Noodle. Garlic bread sticks, tossed house salad and choice of dressing are included.

Sandwich Buffet: We will have a choice of two sandwich options: BLTA, Club, Turkey/Cranberry, Caprese, Chicken Salad, Hummus and veggie wrap. Also includes soup de jour, tossed green salad and kettle chips.

Fajita Buffet: Choice of chicken or skirt steak, sauteed peppers and onion, tortillas, Mexican rice and refried beans, sour cream, shredded cheese, tortilla chips & salsa

Italian Buffet: Lasagna, Fettuccini with choice of chicken or shrimp. Served with tossed green salad choice of soup and warm breadsticks.

Creating a Positive Retreat Experience

We want this retreat to be a relaxing and enjoyable time for everyone. To keep the focus on creativity and camaraderie, we kindly ask that political discussions be left at the door. Our diverse group comes together with a shared passion for sewing, and we want to ensure that every attendee feels comfortable and welcome. Let's celebrate our common love of design, learning, and community.

If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to reach out. We can't wait to see you in March!
