Highlights of the Sure Fit Designs Retreat: A week of Fun, Fitting & Friendship

There's something truly magical that happens when creative minds gather in one place and the recent Sure Fit Designs Retreat was no exception. For six inspiring days, participants from near and far came together to learn the art of fitting and pattern making.

From the moment participants began to check into the hotel, the hotel became alive with excitement. The front desk noticed the excited energy and began to believe that we all must be celebrities. Throughout the retreat, the heart of the experience was fitting-both garments and connections. Smiles lit up faces as muslins transformed into custom test fitting garments and fitting challenges became triumphs.

There were plenty of "aha moments and a lot of helpful tips shared. But beyond the sewing successes, what stood out most was the sense of support and celebration in the room. Everyone cheered each other on.

My favorite moments were the realization of having brought everyone together and just listening to the excited chatter as everyone was working and sitting down enjoying lunch together. I've learned alot about how you use our pattern making tools, and have gained insight on how to coach you all moving forward.

The Sure Fit Designs Designing Stylus: Your Playful, Powerful Pants-Making Partner

At a glance, the stylus looks like a beautifully shaped tool with smooth curves, but once you start playing with it, you realize just how versatile it truly is. Frontward, backwards, upside down-it doesn't matter! There's a use for every edge and corner. Whether you're drawing the inseam curve, shaping the hip line, or adjusting the waistline, the stylus adapts right along with your creativity.

And this is where I want to encourage you to explore and play. I've noticed that many of you instinctively choose to use the top section of the stylus labeled 'Hip Curve" when drafting your pants, using that prominent curve as your go-to shape-and sometimes that can lead to a bubble or extra fullness in the hip area of your test garment.

Instead of defaulting to just one part of the ruler, try experimenting with the full length of the stylus when connecting your hip curve dots. Slide it around, flip it, and find the line that flows most naturally with your body shape. The stylus is designed to give you options-so take advantage of that flexibility and let with work with you. You might be surprised how much of a difference a little exploration can make!
