Can you believe it's time for summer reading already? Wow!
This year's Adult Summer Reading program has an exciting new addition... more prize options! For those who love a chance to win big, we still have raffle prizes—this year, we have gift cards to local restaurants and businesses! But if you prefer a guaranteed prize, we now have a prize cart full of small, medium, and large prizes. Visit the Reference Desk to see what's on offer!
We've also updated the rules to make things more fair. See the Rules Refresher section below!
In other news, we're once again working with BEAT (that's the Berlin Equity Action Team) to organize a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 22. Juneteenth is a national holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday itself is on June 19, which is a Wednesday this year, and the library will be closed.
Summer Reading Online
If you participated last year, you can sign in with the same account! We can reset lost passwords over the phone (860-828-7126) or in person.
Because we are offering raffles AND prizes this year, there's a slight change to how you log books. If you would like to put your ticket in a raffle basket, the process is exactly the same—just pick a basket from the drop-down box. To save up your tickets for prizes, simply skip that step and don't select a basket.
This year, you can also move your ticket to a new raffle basket, or take it out of the basket and use it for prizes—only up until the raffle drawing, of course. Once we draw a raffle, all the tickets in that basket at the time of drawing will be used up and can no longer be moved or redeemed for prizes.
The Booklet!
Love the paper booklet? You can download the booklet (and extra pages) or pick up a copy at the Adult Reference Desk. The booklet is optional, but it has all the important information in one place—plus a reading log for your personal use.
Rules Refresher
We've updated the rules this year, so remember to review the rules before logging books. The updates are mostly clarifications on things like reading level, what type of books you can count, and the consequences for breaking the rules.
Does your book qualify? You must be able to answer 'yes' to these questions:
Did you start reading it on or after June 12?
Is it a book, ebook, audiobook, or graphic novel?
Is it at your general reading level?
If we find that a participant is not following the program rules, we will send one reminder. If they do not provide a satisfactory response, they may be disqualified from winning raffles for the rest of the summer, and questionable books may have their tickets deactivated.
Rest assured, we have already issued several reminders for the June 12 rule. Please, help us avoid an uncomfortable conversation... read the rules!
Okay okay, get to the prizes!
We all know the real prize is the books we read along the way. But we have some pretty great prizes and raffle bags, too. There's not nearly enough space to list all the fun prizes on the raffle cart—but a picture is worth a thousand words!
