| | | | Controlling Gravity for Better Squats, Deadlifts, and Presses by Dr. Michael Hartle
In order for you to "lift," you must produce more force than the pull gravity has on the load. But what goes up must come down. If you’re only paying attention to one half of every squat, deadlift, and press—the concentric or acceleration phase—you’re missing out on a heap of strength and stability that comes from training the eccentric or deceleration phase.
