Subject: Not feeling your pecs when benching or doing pushups?

“Although we are not bodybuilders,” says bench press record breaker George Halbert, “we can use their exercises and put a power spin on them.”

Halbert has a first-rate tip on how to recruit your pecs to the max. It is the exact opposite of the triceps training tip you learned recently.

Take a relatively wide grip on the bar or on the floor. One and a half shoulder widths are a good starting point.

Flare your elbows out. (The opposite of the standard advice for pushing exercises. Make sure your shoulders can take it.)

Grip the barbell or the floor hard and imagine that you are trying to bring your hands together. In other words, try to “compress” or “shorten” the bar or “wrinkle” the floor by squeezing in with your chest.

Behold your pec power!
