Subject: The realisation that comes when you're sick...

How do you teach body awareness in your early childhood string lessons?

I haven't been feeling too well recently. I thought it was anxiety and stress from moving house, but it turns out to be my thyroid is going a bit crazy.

This week I'm listening to my body and resting up.

We all know that listening to our body isn't just for when we are sick or for a short period here and there. Really we should be taking time every day to listen carefully and put ourselves first.

When I teach all my students, especially my beginners, I have a STRONG FOCUS on listening to the body. I call it creating a whole body awareness.

Children may not be used to isolating body parts or they may be so used to rushing everywhere they don't get time to create that awareness.

How do you create body awareness when teaching your younger students?

Just hit reply - I would LOVE to hear from you!!

Warmest regards,

Ps. Coming to the Stringosaurus Resources Hub on 1st March!

An interactive video challenge with 5 levels!

Children play the rhythm on each level correctly and then carry on to the next level.

Once they reach level 5 they are at the and can collect the treasure.

Here are my five suggestions on how I would use this video:

  • Each rhythm is very simple so pause and say the rhythm first of all

  • Clap or pat the rhythms

  • Pizzicato

  • Left hand pizzicato on any string for left hand shape set up

  • Bow open harmonics to the rhythm for left hand shape set up

Make sure that you have signed up to the Hub to access all 80+ resources. :)
