Breaking Down Rhythms...

With your younger students who can't translate the number of sounds they hear and play them correctly on their instrument:

I had such a cute breakthrough during my violin lesson today, and I can't wait to share it with you!

Meet my sweet 5-year-old violin student, who was trying hard to understand the number of syllables in words and while playing her violin.

But guess what? We found a magical solution that made learning super fun and easy-peasy!

So, picture this: my student was playing the sentence rhythm: “G for Gorilla” and instead of playing ta ti-ti ta ta, she would play 3 tas as to her, there were 3 words.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed, we turned it into a playful experience! We opened up my trusty violin case and discovered not one, not two, but NINE pencils in there! It seems I took my violin teacher's advice to carry a pencil to a whole new level – eight steps further to be exact! Ha ha ha!

I asked my little violinist to lay out one pencil for each sound or syllable she heard as she said each word. And just like that, the rhythms transformed into a visual masterpiece, making it easier for her to play!

Imagine her delight as she saw the sentences and rhythms come alive with pencils!

This little trick not only turned our lesson into a joyful experience but also taught her an invaluable lesson about rhythm and counting beats. The power of visualisation truly knows no bounds!

Let me know your thoughts?
