Up until this point, even as a so-called “early childhood violin expert,” I had only been providing adult-led experiences… thinking it was child-play!
Then, everything changed.
A few years ago, I teamed up with Michelle Hall for a creative development piece for the Barking Gecko Theatre Company. The piece was an immersive production for 3-5-year-olds called 'Adventures In The Creature Garden.'
It was written, part performed, and directed by Michelle, and I provided the background music and created the musical score as a solo violinist.
In that moment, I had to think on my feet and respond to the children as they became engrossed in their new environment, improvising on my violin and reading their reactions and thought processes.
For the first time, I saw the true power of PERSONALISED musical interactions!
What started as a daunting experience transformed into one of my MOST FULFILLING musical journeys.
I rose to the challenge and discovered that there are MANY ways for kids to get a rich and diverse learning experience.
Every child who attended felt SEEN and HEARD, leaving them calm and engaged.
