I swear I didn’t do this on purpose… but in my house, Doo Doo is actually another word for poop!
My dad passed away this year, and one of the things I’ll always remember is his dry, predictable (but still hilarious) toilet humour.
It seems this runs in the family…
Tom, one of our Teachosauri, messaged me after using The Doo-Bree-What-Sit-Ease – a playful picture book I created to help students set up their left hand on the violin.
Each finger is personified as part of the phrase: Doo (thumb), Bree (1st finger), What (2nd), Sit (3rd), Ease (4th).
One of Tom’s students refused to let his thumb (Doo) touch the side of the fingerboard – and not in that lovely relaxed way we’d hope for.
Tom joked with him that by skipping the thumb, Doo could end up doing a Doo Doo!
Cue belly laughter… and suddenly, Doo was resting right where he needed to be.
Now – some kids will find even more joy imagining Doo needing to gently rest on the side of the neck, like he’s sitting on the loo, not hovering awkwardly in the air. 😂
Twist the story in a way that works for your students! If it feels too rude for your taste, don’t worry – just skip it...
