Saint M', born Marley Carter-Sharpe, wasn’t supposed to be born at all. His mom was told she couldn’t have children, but out of pure luck, Marley was a born.
The UK Hip-Hop/R&B music artist has had music in his life before he was even born. He used to kick to Bob Marley in the womb (which is where he got his name). The first artist he ever loved was Michael Jackson and as a teenager, he would dress up and do dances for the family.
Bullied throughout school, he often felt the odd one out. When he was 13, he wrote a song for a girl that ended up on YouTube, embarrassing him, and it shied him away from making his own music until he was 19 years old.
From there, he saw a friend doing music and was so impressed that someone from his small town could do that, he then became obsessed. He became so enthralled with the music, he couldn’t sleep at night. He would lie away thinking about how he could improve a song he was working on, often spending all night in the studio instead.
After this, his journey found him addicted to weed, which hindered his goals. He realised he couldn’t make it to his goals if he kept his addiction, so he got clean using the 12 Steps. Now, he is just as obsessed with music as before, but has learned how to sleep better, for now.
