Subject: Random March Adventures - Musical Mountaintops & Role Playing Games!

Hey Friend

Welcome to your monthly Random Adventures newsletter from Story City. As spring is approaching, we're excited to dive into the first of these newsletters for adventurers!

You signed up to our newsletter on our website in the past, and while we’ve been a little quiet over the years, with the launch of our brand-new app and our creator tools we’re hoping these monthly newsletters both entertain, delight, and provide experiences for you to enjoy with friends and family. Particularly as more creators join our ranks and make more adventures in a city near you!

Each newsletter will include highlights on some of our creators and their stories for you to try, and some fun, random things we’ve found on the internet that we thought you’d like.

And we do mean random.

This edition includes recipes you can make with an empty pantry, indigenous TikTokers, and musicians playing from mountaintops. Enjoy!

Creator Spotlight – Writer, Dimity Powell

The author of award-nominated Story City adventure, The Chapel of Unlove, Dimity Powell has written many books for children. Her words appear in school magazines, anthologies, online, and in junior novels and picture books. Congrats to Dimity on her new book "This is My Dad" set for release on March 15, celebrating families of all shapes and sizes.

Have you checked out Dimity’s comedic adventure The Chapel of Unlove on the Story City App yet?  In this adventure your godmother is about to marry the man of your nightmares, an Elvis impersonator named, Barry. Will you help them make it to the chapel on time or sabotage this clearly disastrous match? Download the App and head into the streets of Hope Island on the Gold Coast to play! Or hit it up in Spoiler Mode from your favourite comfy seat at home.

Creator Spotlight – Musician, Jed Walters

Jed A. Walters is an award-winning composer and musician with diverse abilities on multiple instruments along with a vast understanding of genre and film scores that set him apart from your everyday musician.  A big congratulations to Jed on starting a music school “Make Noise Music School” in the Gold Coast to share his knowledge with enthusiasts keen to discover the joy of music. The school offers training in acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and music production. You can also explore his music at Instagram and Facebook

He created the scores for Story City adventures the Book of the Sun, The Chapel of Unlove, and the Hokey Pokey. Will you choose to become a wizard using Australia’s first book of magic? Or perhaps go back in time to get your grandparents together in the surf-culture of the 50’s? Or do you choose to save (or sabotage) your god-mother’s wedding? Download the App and take one of these adventures in person, or enjoy them via Spoiler Mode from the comfort of your home!

Your Questions, Answered!

This week's question: But I looked at the app and there are no adventures near me. What do I do?

It’s true! Each story on the App starts in the physical location in the city it’s set and where you visit depends on the path you pick through the adventure.

But hey, for our adventurers who like to armchair travel, Story City’s Spoiler Mode feature enables you to explore adventures around the world. To activate Spoiler Mode on the App:

  • Simply click on your profile image on the upper left corner on the Explore tab map,

  • Tap the Settings option and toggle on the spoiler mode option,

  • Once spoiler mode is active, you can select any story on the map and click ‘Start Story’ on the overview page to armchair adventure throughout the world. Open the map on the reader view to see where you would be standing in the real world.

  • Once you’re done with the chapter, scroll to the bottom of the page to select the next chapter you wish to visit.

  • Keep going until you reach the end!
