We have a potential opportunity for creators we’ve worked with in the past, which includes you!
What’s the Opportunity?
As we’ve been working hard to scale Story City into the USA we’ve learned that many cities are looking for turnkey solutions they can squeeze into their current budgets to pilot our platform before committing to larger city wide projects (that many of you have been a part of!).
We got to thinking, how could this challenge create an opportunity for the creators we’ve worked with in the past?
Our Mission
Our main mission, always, is to provide opportunities for creators to make money in new ways, with around 44% of the cost of any custom city project going to paying our creator partners for their work. So far this has paid out $200k+ to 100+ creators. We would like to continue this model, and address this new market request by once again funnelling that opportunity back to you.
The Catalogue
Between our workshops and create-a-thons we’ve been able to build a community of creators who know how to build out stories on our platform. We’d like to invite you to contribute to a catalogue of stories that could be placed in any city, using generic locations, that can be quickly localized. The idea is to build out this catalogue of Universal Adventures over time to continue to service our primary target customer, cities.
How Would this Work?
If you’re interested in taking on the task of building fun, creative experiences in cities (dating sims, pirate raids, spy adventures, bar crawls, zoo stories, sports team meetups, etc.), or adapting previous ones you’ve made, we’d add those stories to this catalogue, sell them to the 80+ city orgs we’ve built connections with over the years, and share back that revenue directly with you, the creators. Our goal is to create a bigger pie for us all to grow and succeed together.
Here’s the idea:
City X selects 3 stories from the catalogue for $5000 ($1666 per story). The IP of these stories rest with you, the creator, and would be licensed for 12 months to be free for the residents of City X to enjoy. Following the expiration of the license, the story will be left in place where the city can choose to re-new the license or it becomes available for individual purchase by the residents of City X at the price you the creator has set, same as if you put your story up for sale directly on the platform.
Why 3 Stories? Because we’ve learned that not everyone wants to be a pirate, or go on a pub crawl, and a city needs a minimum of three stories for community members to have enough choice to want to use a new platform.
Why $5000 ($1666 per story)? It’s the amount that’s feasible to pull from almost any city department’s budget for a trial.
We would then reach out to you to help us localize the story quickly. Our goal would be to have the story placed in a City in just two weeks, making any small tweaks that would be necessary for a city (i.e. where a bridge over a river might need to become a pontoon on a lake).
If you help us with localization of your stories, we’ll share back 50% of the $1666 (per story) revenue with you. If we take on the task of localizing the story, we’ll share back 40% of the revenue generated via the sale of the story.
We would then activate the story in City X and pay you the share of the revenue, & send renewal requests each year.
Rinse and repeat with a new city organization.
