Hi Friend,

Yes, I finally turned the heat on this week. I was wearing shorts up until the last minute when the national weather service issue a freeze warning in my area. I tried to “tough it out”, but my family, dog, and gecko were giving me the evil eye and I relented.

The beginning of the summer got off to a great start. My partners and I completed our 50-mile, week-long backpacking trip on the Long Trail in Vermont. This was a personal goal for me that started two years ago. Getting back to nature is a good way for me to recharge and re-prioritize my personal and professional vision of success. My time on the trail reset my physical, mental, and emotional perspectives and values. This was truly an awesome experience and I would love to share some of the highlights with anyone that is interested. You can check out some of our pictures on FB, http://bit.ly/2QjV60e.
When I returned from my trip, I had another adventure waiting for me. The past 10 weeks have been a whirlwind for me and my family. Some of you know that my mother was in and out of the hospital – she had a severe tachycardia along with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and other related issues that landed her in the critical care unit a couple of times. It was frightening every time the phone rang or we received a text message. My sister stepped in as the primary caregiver, finance manager, and all things related because of her proximity to my mother in Massachusetts. My brother and I live further away and provided secondary assistance, but that’s not the scary part at all. This is a reminder of how precious family and life is, and how things can change in a split-second. My mother went from doing "OK" to being transferred to the CCU in a couple of hours. The scariest part of this situation is that we waste so much time on things that don’t really matter at all. The number of people in the community who reached out to help has been overwhelming and we appreciated it. My mother went home last week and has visiting nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and other home help. At the moment, she is doing well and feeling better.
