Yesterday I wanted to send you a very inspired mail...
Driving to the office in the afternoon, I was full of inspiration, had some great ideas I could talk about...
My two youngest came with me to the office, they were playing on their Ipad, talking about Minecraft and other games but it distracted me... And inspiration was gone.
I have to say that I never force myself to write something, I don't do that, it doesn't feel right, what I write to you comes naturally as the thing to share for that day.
So I decided to write an email later in the evening, but I felt exhausted after dinner and was thinking that my day hadn't been very productive.
And all of a sudden I shifted my perspective, what if I would die tonight, how was my last day on this planet?
I revised my day mentally: in the morning I had visited a good friend of mine and we had been chatting all morning, I enjoyed our talk and told my friend how much I appreciate and love her, later I stopped by another friend for 20 minutes and she was very happy to see me, then I had business friend on the phone, a very nice guy who is helping me out with some material and I told him how much I appreciate him and the work he does for me, had my mom and later my brother on the phone and listened with love to their story...
And although what I wanted to do in the afternoon didn't go as planned, I thought, I could look back on a very nice (successful) last day of my life in a human perspective.
Is a successful day all about doing the work that has to be done? We are programmed to think that way.
A successful day is about who you are while doing your work, and yesterday turned out to be a day to share laughs and appreciation with friends and family.
If you only live to tick off your to-do list, you could have some career or business success, but I can tell you, since I've been there, when the doctors tell you you have 6 months left to live, you don't care about to-do lists, all you care about is how you lived, if you were nice for yourself, did you listen to your heart's dreams, did you follow your path or did you live the life of someone else, was your presence one of love and compassion for the people around you, what is the legacy you are leaving...
So on this Saturday morning, this is what I wanted to share with you.
If you think your day didn't go as planned, that you couldn't do all the tasks you imposed on yourself, just think, was I a beautiful human being today?
Sending you love, Barbara.
