Hi Friend. Happy Sunday!
So in just a few weeks we will be launching our Healthy Kids fundraiser at WTE. As we prepare for that, I wanted to take a quick moment to share some of our favorite healthy(ier) snacks for school.
This is always a hot topic as we parents are constantly torn between convenience and health. A bag of chips and juice are sooo easy to just throw in a bag :)
Our advice to parents is simple. Just try to work in at least one fruit or vegetable at every meal and snack. If you can keep that top of mind, you're good to go.
Here are a few snack ideas for your next trip to the store. |

There's something about a snack in a pouch that kids just love. These Plum Mashups can be found at Wal-Mart and contain no added sugar and all organic ingredients. It's important to buy organic if the fruit/vegetable is on the Dirty Dozen list. The Dirty Dozen is the list of fruits and vegetables with the highest likelihood of pesticide residue. Gross, I know! |

GoGo Squeez's are another kid-friendly snack. Since this snack is apple-based, organic is the best option. These can be found at Wal-Mart and Kroger.
Apples are #1 on the Dirty Dozen list so even apple sauce and apple juice should be purchased organic to avoid any pesticide residue.
p.s. the HKI meal planner automatically tells you when to buy organic so this isn't a list that you need to memorize. |

We find ourselves constantly torn between small snack bars (like granola or oat bars) and crackers. The truth is, our kids generally consume far more sugar throughout the day than they should, so opting for a cracker, like Back to Nature, with healthier ingredients and no sugar is a good option compared to snack bars that contain syrups and sugars.
In this case, we would send the kiddo's to school with a snack-size bag of crackers and a sliced apple. |

If you have a little extra time and would like to break away from pre-packaged products, then matchstick veggies are the perfect snack to fuel your kids mid-morning.
We love the small 1/4 cup containers with lids (can be found at Sam's and at Kroger in smaller quantities). Just fill the container with your dip of choice- ranch or hummus- and add some veggies to a bag. Voila! Your healthy snack is now easy to consume. |

Next week I'll share a few of our favorite food swaps. Making even small changes can go a long way with raising healthy kids.
Have a great weekend Friend. Talk again soon.
