As the clocks go back, we've been looking forward this month - and we've got a lot to look forward to!
We've been putting the final touches to our National Conference on 27th November and I'm delighted to confirm that we've now sold out. If you've missed out this time, join our waiting list here.
This month we also announced an exciting International Child Trauma Conference to be held in Scotland in 2020 and featuring world-leading trauma expert Dr Bruce Perry. You can find out more in my blog below.
Last Friday, Staf HQ also joined hundreds of others at the Who Cares? Scotland 'Lifetime of Love' Rally in Glasgow - part of the first ever Care Experienced Week. It was a great day - we all left full of love, passion and determination to do more.
We've also just had an informative and fun Practitioners' Gathering in Stirling. For a flavour of what happened on the day, below is a blog from Ged Neil. Ged told his own care story and taught us practical techniques to reduce stress in our own working lives and for the young people we support.
Finally, we've been exploring two of the big issues you have been raising with us - Universal Credit and the Care Experienced Bursary. You'll find more information on both issues below.

| | | | | Supported Lodgings, Supported Carers Focus Group Wednesday 5th December 2018 | 11.30am - 2.30pm
This group continues to meet on a quarterly basis and its members include most of the Scottish Local Authorities and third sector providers of this important and developing service.
We provide a supportive forum to share good practice, local and national developments and discuss issues around Care Inspectorate inspections. This group is aimed at members and corporate parents who provide supported lodgings or supported carer services for care-experienced young people. |
| | | | Implications of Continuing Care Focus Group Tuesday 22nd January 2019 | 11.30am - 2.30pm
Meeting since 2014, the Implications of Continuing Care focus group offers a safe place to discuss issues and practice arising from Part 11 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014.
At this meeting we will be sharing best practice and discussing how we, together, can overcome current issues: from ensuring adequate funding and resources, to ending the postcode lottery faced by young people.
We will be joined by colleagues in Fife who will share their current developments and good practice. Clan ChildLaw who have a new 'Care Leavers' Rights Project' will also be with us to share this new work. |
| | | | Care Leavers into Employment Focus Group Tuesday 5th February 2019 | 11.30am - 2.30pm
Our Care Leavers into Employment focus group considers the issues faced by young people in both accessing and sustaining employment, with the aim to influence change in both local and national policy.
Join us to discuss employability schemes, mental health, transport, and how to remove barriers currently in the way of care-experienced young people from getting and maintaining jobs. |
| | | Local Authority Members Meeting Wednesday 20th February 2019 | 10am - 12.30pm, Stirling
This is a first to bring local authority managers together to look at issues specific to delivering statutory services to young people.
Join us in the familiar surroundings of the Albert Halls in Stirling where we will spend time discussing current practice issues including: - Transitions
- Welfare
- Service delivery and design
As always there will be plenty of time to catch up with colleagues, spending time together networking and sharing practice.
