Have you completed our Staf Membership survey? If you haven't already done so, please take five minutes to fill it out and let us know how Staf can improve your membership experience. |
| I had great fun getting stuck in at Who Cares? Scotland's camp this month - more importantly, it was lovely to meet such an inspirational and amazing group of young people. You can learn about the personal experiences of young people at the camp here.
Looking ahead to next month, we have a number of Focus Groups, Managers' Forums, and our Changing Minds Changing Lives course. If you're a member you can attend our focus groups free of charge! Remember to take advantage of your membership discount when booking at any of our events too.
All the best,
Norma

| | Promoting Effective Practice with Girls and Young Women Award Introducing the new Promoting Effective Practice with Girls and Young Women personal development award at SCQF level 7. The PDA looks at understanding the impact of relational aggression as well as the impact of trauma and girls/young women's responses to it. The PDA covers a wide range of topics that are informed by gender responsive researchers and key areas such as self-harm, risk and gender, and society’s views of gender. It is hoped that professionals completing the PDA will be better informed when intervening and interacting with vulnerable and high risk young girls. The writers of the awards urge those working with vulnerable and high risk girls and young woman to improve their knowledge and understanding and to put gender on the agenda. For more information, visit the SQA's website. |

| Changing Minds, Changing Lives
Back by popular demand, Staf's Changing Minds, Changing Lives course facilitated by Gerald Neil is returning on 19th September 2018.
Now a successful accountant, qualified stress and relaxation therapist and an affiliate member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Gerald explained how he overcame trauma and adversity, and the tools and techniques he has learnt to downgrade the effects of stress quickly.
We received phenomenal feedback from Gerald's course:
"Hearing such an inspirational story of how a disadvantaged background can be overcome gave me a great feeling of hope."
"It has truly given me hope and inspiration to take that renewed energy back to my colleagues and young people."
If you missed this opportunity, the Changing Minds Changing Lives course will take place again on 19th September at the Albert Halls in Stirling. To book, click here.
You can also follow Gerald on Twitter here.

Managers' Forums and Practitioners' Gathering
This autumn’s series of managers’ forums focus on how we as a community of managers seek to develop our services, reacting to policy and sector developments and giving weight to the views of the children and young people we work with.
- Managers' Forum (Aberdeen) 29th August at the Aberdeen Foyer
We know that the developmental aspects of children and young people's lives are crucial in making a difference - creating a hopeful future for them, with relationships at the heart of our approach. How does current policy and legislation aid this approach? Join the discussion at our Aberdeen Managers' Forum.
- Managers' Forum (Stirling) 11th September 2018 at the Albert Halls, Stirling
At this forum we will discuss what we can learn and implement from the findings and recommendations outlined in the Frameworks Institute report on Mapping the Gaps between Expert and Public Understanding of Care Experience and the Care System in Scotland, and explore the Age of Criminal Responsibility (Scotland) Bill to understand how the changes to the minimum age of criminal responsibility will affect our services.
- Practitioners' Gathering 30th October 2018 at the Albert Halls, Stirling
This PG is a special Care Leavers Week event, taking practitioners and young people on a journey through understanding the impact of stress on our bodies and how relaxation can help boost our confidence and self-esteem. Thanks to funding from the Life Changes Trust we can offer one free place for young people per worker.
