Dear Friend

I know this email will reach you at a busy and challenging time. If you read no further, then please do read this: thank you for everything you do. The advice, guidance and support that you are providing to children and young people right now is invaluable. Read my full reflections on coronavirus here

Of course, we held a successful Staf Summit at the beginning of March, a conference exploring relationship-based practice. Thank you to everyone who attended - I know you're keen to take forward your learning so we'll be in touch very soon with online events to support this work. We'll also be taking forward your key asks from the day, as it's never been more important to keep relationships on the agenda.

While our office may be closed, we are very much still here for you. Our team can still be reached on 0141 465 7511 and admin@staf.scot. Our member enquiry service remains available too, just send your policy and practice queries to enquiries@staf.scot.

We are continuing to creatively engage with the young people involved in our projects. We’ve sent self-care packs out, Youth Justice Voices are preparing for a digital exhibition of the Artivism artwork and Project Return has even put together their own music playlist. Based on the concerns and worries raised by the young people we’ve also created a Coronavirus Support and Signposting resource for young people.

We’re also connecting members online too, the Building Relationships Advisory Group is meeting online and we've held our first online Local Authority Members’ Forum. We’re also looking beyond the current situation so I’m delighted to confirm that our next National Conference will be held on 17th of November in Edinburgh. Make sure you save the date now – we’ll be back in touch with more details soon.

Over the next few months we’ll be working differently but we will continue to advocate for care-experienced young people and those who care for them. As well as keeping you informed on the Care Review, we’ll continue to engage with the Scottish Government on how we can help keep the momentum going.

It has never been more important that we do everything we can, as a country, to be a good parent to young people in and leaving care – Staf will support our members to continue to do so. One of our key strengths is our ability to connect members across the country and we will continue to do this virtually, remember we have our member enquiry service.

Working together, I know we will get through this.

Best wishes,
Jo
