Dear Friend,

As a subscriber to Staf’s regular newsletter, I am sure you will have been following the progress of our Youth Justice Voices project, a partnership with the Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice.

We’re getting in touch to pass on the third edition of the 'Youth Justice Voices' newsletter for care and justice experienced young people in Scotland and created by the young people of Youth Just Us! The group has worked really hard to make this so please pass it on to any young people that would be interested.

In this edition we take a look at the work of our Youth Justice Visionaries who were commissioned by the Scottish Government to consult their peers, share our reflections on issues like Universal Basic Income, and ask the question of how we can teach young people to be happy, plus so much more.

Find out more about all the great work the project has been doing in this blog from Staf CEO Jo Derrick.

Youth Just Us created this newsletter to keep young people connected during these difficult times, even if they're not online. We want to hear from the young people you support too. You’ll see on the back page how they can get the chance to be in our next edition.

We've also created a version that can be professionally printed. If you are a worker and are looking for multiple hard copies for young people you can also get in touch with ruth@staf.scot.

Commendation for Youth Justice Voices at Howard League Awards

Youth Justice Voice has received a commendation at the Howard League Community Awards in the Children in Care and Care Leavers Category!

Chris Marshall, a young person involved in the project said: “It’s such a huge achievement for me to be part of a collective group everyone has worked so hard to make sure we are a success and I can’t wait to see where we will be able to take the project. Congratulations to all the winners. I look forward to hearing more about all the different projects which were nominated.”

Participation Practitioners’ Forum | Thursday 3 December 2020 | Zoom | Free

The participation practitioners' forum is a free bi-monthly event for participation workers supporting young people with care and justice experience to connect with, and learn from, each other: sharing successes, reflecting on challenges, and championing examples of best practice in an informal setting.

The forum was set up in response to restrictions on physical meetings and gatherings - as those delivering participation work across the country have had to rapidly and creatively adapt their approach, and we have been connecting with monthly Zoom calls. The forum has a particular focus on engaging workers that support care-experienced young people in the justice system, and on utilising digital tools to creatively support young people.
