Dear Friend,

We have a range of exciting new upcoming Staf events that have recently been announced. In September and October we will host our first webinar, as well as a range of workshops being delivered by our projects - led by care and justice experienced young people!
  • On the 9th September, we'll be hosting a webinar on relationship-based practice featuring a stream of Dr Gillian Ruch's presentation from the Staf Summit and a facilitated discussion delivered by Staf's Head of Learning and Development, Pamela Graham. This webinar will enable participants to reflect on their own practice, develop new strategies, and share the techniques and processes that work well for you in delivering relationship-based care.

  • Staf and CYCJ's Youth Justice Voices project are running a series of engagement workshops for young people aged 16-25 throughout September to influence the Scottish Government and shape the future of youth justice: 'Youth Justice Visionaries'. Existing youth and participation groups and organisations can get in contact with ruth@staf.scot to book a session.

  • Staf's Project Return will be delivering Discovery Workshops to find out what young people and workers want to see in a throughcare and aftercare trauma resource. These workshops are co-productive and are for anyone aged 16+ with care and/or justice experience and anyone who has or currently works to support this group.

  • The next edition of the Participation Practitioners' Forum will take place on the 22nd October - this forum provides a supportive and informal place to share and learn from colleagues as we deliver participation work online.

  • Last chance to complete our Events Survey - the deadline has been extended until this Friday!
Staf Webinar: Service delivery and relationship-based practice - 9th September (Adobe Connect)
Following on from our successful Staf Summit in March 2020, Staf is hosting a new series of webinars focussing on how relationships can be placed at the heart of practice and the difference that this can make for the young people in our care

In the first of this series we will be hearing from Dr Gillian Ruch, Professor of Social Work at The University of Sussex. This stream of Gillian's recorded keynote address from our March 2020 event will be followed by a facilitated discussion on relationship-based practice delivered by Staf's Head of Learning and Development, Pamela Graham.

This discussion will enable participants to reflect on their own practice, develop new strategies, and share the techniques and processes that work well for you in delivering relationship-based care. We will further reflect on the findings from Staf's research on relationship-based practice as part of our 'Building Relationships' project.

Youth Justice Visionaries Engagement Workshops (September, Zoom)
To make sure that it’s getting Scotland’s new Vision and Action Plan for Youth Justice right for young people, the Scottish Government has commissioned Youth Justice Voices to develop an engagement strategy.

With the support and training of Youth Justice Voices participation workers, young people will develop a range of tools to gather the views of justice experienced children and young people on what the priority areas for the next two years and beyond should be.

Youth Justice Visionaries will run these confidential, online, engagement workshops throughout September, considering key issues such as the Age of Criminal Responsibility, place of safety, and the extension of the Children’s Hearings System We are looking for existing youth and participation groups and organisations currently using Zoom or online platforms to support young people to take part.

A topic guide will be available for workers to use with young people in order to gather views on each of the consultations. If you think you know of anyone who would be interested, please get in touch with ruth@staf.scot to discuss.

An online workshop to hear the views of young people aged 16-25 on extending the Children’s Hearing System will take place on 22nd September from 1.00pm – 2.00pm on Zoom.

This workshop is run in collaboration with Youth Justice Visionaries young people, CELCIS and CYCJ, featuring activities developed and delivered by young people. Free spaces can be booked via the Eventbrite link below - we would encourage workers to share this opportunity with the young people you support.
