Join Spectrum Wine Auctions and the iconic Château Pichon Baron for a special, five-course autumn tasting menu at acclaimed Chef Walter Manzke's iconic République.

With history dating back (at least) to Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan's 1689 formation of the Enclos Rauzan vineyard in Pauillac adjacent to Château Latour, Château Pichon Baron has over the centuries come to define the power, grace, and longevity of which the finest wines of Bordeaux are capable.

We will be pouring some of the Château's greatest vintages dating back to the extraordinary 1988 together with a selection of world-class offerings from the AXA Millésimes portfolio including stellar vintages of Château Suduiraut extending back to the great 1975.  We will be joined by special guest Xavier Sanchez.

Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2016
“Clean and fresh with pear and sliced-apple character. Medium-bodied, clean and minerally. Delicious.”
90
James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

S de Suduiraut 2014 (1.5-Liter)
“Fresh and tangy with sliced apples, honey and peaches. Full body with a long finish. This has more sémillon than the previous vintages and it paid off.”
90-91
James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

S de Suduiraut 2015
“Bright green, with silver highlights. Fresh nuances of delicate Bonne Louise d’Avranches pear followed by ripe, yellow tropical fruits, lemon zest, mineral. Of medium body, showing white fruit; freshly structured with white apple – an appetizing food companion.”
91-93
Peter Moser, Falstaff Magazin

Griffons de Pichon Baron 2012 (3-Liter)
“13% alcohol. Lovely focused sweet blackcurrant fruit nose with freshness and a subtle sappy, gravelly edge. Very pure and alluring but not in the slightest bit over-ripe. Pure, clean, refined palate with blackcurrant and black cherry fruit. Real focus and harmony. A brilliant expression of Pauillac that’s not trying too hard, and has lovely freshness and the sort of structure that makes you think this could be a good bet for mid- to long-term cellaring. I really like the freshness here.”

Château Petit Village 2014
“Quite an earthy, solid wine with plenty of power and concentration . . . . The tannins on the finish are a bit chewy, but they should harmonize in time and there’s plenty of fruit in there.”
93 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

Château Pichon Baron 2012 (1.5-Liter)
“Bordeaux is on my mind at the moment. So I dug this beauty out and shared it. It’s too young, for sure, but what a wine! I was so impressed. This is why we come to Bordeaux: no trace of over-ripeness here, but great concentration and harmony. This is sensational. It’s concentrated and intense with ripe blackcurrant and black cherry fruit supported by beautifully refined chalky tannins. Structured and bold with restraint: while this has enough ripeness, it is also really direct and savoury with lovely precision to the black fruits. There’s amazing balance and concentration here. Still very youthful with taut structure, and real potential for development. Such purity to the fruit, and no rough edges; structured and fine. An astonishingly good expression of this vintage, which I’ve grown to like quite a bit.”

Château Pichon Baron 2008 (1.5-Liter)
“Tasted ex-château and single blind in Southwold. ‘Oh baby baby’ as Salt ‘n Pepa declared back in the day: Pichon Baron is a real star of this vintage. It is a little introverted at first, tightly-wound dark berries, tar and graphite and a touch of autumnal leaves. The palate has a chewy entry, good acidity, firm grip with a dense persuasive finish that is First Growth standard . . . . it is beautifully focused and tensile. This is one of the finest Left Bank wines.”
96 Neal Martin, Wine Journal

Château Pichon Baron 2002 (1.5-Liter)
“Dense aromas of licorice, tobacco, cedar and currants. Subtle yet complex. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a rich, long finish. Very pretty. One of the best from Pauillac this year, and clearly better than 2001. One of the surprises of the vintage.”
93 James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Château Pichon Baron 1996
“The 1996 Pichon-Longueville Baron has a deep garnet core with some bricking on the rim. The nose is fragrant and generous with more red fruit than black, cedar and tobacco, fine definition . . . certainly giving lots of pleasure. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin – a cohesive Pauillac with plenty of depth and fine balance. The acidity lends this plenty of freshness and it does not shortchange you with plenty of tarry, cedary fruit. You come away with the impression that this Pichon Baron is going to continue to improve although I would not burn anyone at the stake for opening it now. If you cannot afford the First Growth then this (and Pichon Lalande) would be where I would come.”
94 Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate

Château Pichon Baron 1990
“The 1990 Pichon-Longueville Baron has always been one of my benchmark wines, one that never ceases to perform. Now at 27 years of age, it is clearly at its peak, and what a wondrous thing it is. Now showing some bricking on the rim, the bouquet is utterly sublime, with red berries, cedar, touches of graphite, crushed rose petals and incense. You just want to become enveloped by these aromas. The palate is perfectly balanced, perhaps not as structured as it once showed since the tannins have mellowed, but what you get is a Pauillac relishing its secondary phase, which is almost Burgundy-like in terms of mouthfeel. Suffused with tension, it gains weight in the mouth toward the slightly tart finish. It is a Pichon Baron that only knows how to give sophisticated drinking pleasure. I once wrote that Pichon Baron is better than many 1990 First Growth, and that is a statement I have no reason to change.

Château Pichon Baron 1988
“A classic new style of Pichon-Baron, with rich, thick, velvety tannins and complex berry, currant and mint character. Full-bodied, it's extremely balanced for showing such impressive power. A real beauty.”
95 James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Château Suduiraut 2001
“Gorgeous aromas of honey, passion fruit, mango and candied lemon rind. Full-bodied and ultraconcentrated, yet balanced and refined. It lasts for minutes on the palate. This has just about everything in the right place. Stunning.”
98 James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Château Suduiraut 1996
“Luscious ripe, sweet lemon and tropical fruit on the nose. The palate is viscous, rich and quite sweet. Good balancing acid and some spiciness, together with a bit of caramel. Fantastic balance here. Sweet, viscous, but with good acidity. A super wine. Very good/excellent.”
93 Jamie Goode, WineAnorak.com

Château Suduiraut 1975
"A consistent note compared to the one earlier this year. It has a mature bouquet with mandarin, tangerine, orange rind, lanolin and dried honey that lacks sweetness but is very well defined. The palate is beautifully balanced and fresh with quince and orange rind, a touch of honeycomb towards the long finish that seems dry when compared to the more extravagant 2001. Certainly, this is the best Suduiraut of the decade."
