“Lignier-Michelot is a Domaine you should seek out."
Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

"Virgile Lignier's brief take on the 2021 vintage was unequivocally enthusiastic, as he said ‘I absolutely love this vintage for its energy, transparency, and drinkability .... I also decided to reduce the amount of new wood to no more than 15 to 20% as the wines are so pure and transparent that I didn't want the oak getting in the way. In sum, 2021 is a really lovely vintage that is going to be much more popular than the early opinions would suggest.’

Lignier has fully hit his stride as an accomplished winemaker. Yes, he has had any number of past successes, but his wines have been stellar for the last 5 vintages ....

If you aren't familiar with his wines, you should be."
Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
"'I vinified with similar percentages of whole bunch [to previous years – details in respective tasting notes but often between 60% and 80%]. I did not want to make a big wine, but rather keep the fineness of the vintage. So I just did some pigeage at the end of cuvaison, fermenting at 30°C for 3-5 days to extract colour and substance. Lots where there was higher pH - 3.5 or 3.6 - together with high proportions of whole bunches, started their malolactic early, almost as soon as the temperatures had decreased. For another set of wines, the malo started much later, in February or March. Now they are more difficult to tell apart. I find the 2021s are typical Bourgogne: tender in style and calm. Every cuvée is aged in 15% new oak, and all the wines are in tank after one wine racking.’"
Neal Martin, Vinous
"One can sense that things are going well for Virgile, and that is certainly reflected in the quality ..."

DOMAINE LIGNIER-MICHELOT
BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2021
From 50+ year old vines in Bons Bâtons, on the Chambolle-Musigny/Gilly-lès-Cîteaux border; 50% whole cluster
"An even fresher, and much more floral-infused, nose blends both black berry fruit and violet with a spicy top note. Here too there is a beguiling texture to the vibrant and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Warmly recommended."

DOMAINE LIGNIER-MICHELOT
MOREY-SAINT-DENIS VIEILLES VIGNES 2019
A cuvée of Très Girard, Les Cognées, and Chenevery; 80% whole cluster; an assemblage of old-vine plantings dating to 1946, 1948, the 1950’s, and 1980’s
"This too is quite aromatically pretty with its ripe and fresh array of floral, spice and black currant that is laced with warm earth hints. There is excellent volume to the caressing yet powerful and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a robust, serious and youthfully austere finale that offers even better depth and persistence. Excellent and recommended though note well that this is firmly structured for a Morey villages, so patience is required."
