“This wine comes from the Les Rachais lieu-dit [aka L'Heurtebise]. The area itself is only 0.5 hectares, with 0.4 of those planted in Chardonnay. This wine is always released as a 100% vintage bottling and considered the finest expression produced at the estate. The site was planted by Francis himself in 1964 using exclusively sélection massale cuttings. It's also where he conducted his first biodynamic experiment while still at Raymond Boulard, convincing him the entire estate should be converted and eventually leading to the formation of Francis Boulard et Fille when he stopped working with his brother and sister. The soils here are notably sandy, with 2 meters of sand over limestone mother rock.”

“The NV Brut Nature Les Murgiers is mostly Muenier with a slap of Pinot Noir based on 2019, with 20% reserve wines. Bright and nervy with a refined mousse, the Murgiers is a bundle of energy today. White pepper, chalk, mint and dried flowers add complexity. Readers should expect an especially taut Meunier-based Champagne. The half bottle of this same wine showed more mid-palate texture and creaminess, along with expressive red fruit, spice and hazelnut flavors, giving a very good idea of where this wine is headed in time ….
