| “This has long been my favorite estate in Southeastern Styria. It is a touch warmer here than in South Styria and there is not as much rainfall. As a result, the wines are less ostentatiously fruity and a touch more compact …. Christoph Neumeister, who came back to the estate in 2001, now runs the show here with the help of his younger brother Matthias. They have gradually extended the vineyard holdings around the elegant winery in the hills on the edge of Straden, scaled back grape purchases and begun converting to organic farming. With relatively long macerations and the use of wild yeasts and higher temperatures during fermentation, their wines are more tannic and structured than those of their colleagues, and age well. Christoph particularly likes vintages such as 2012 and 2009, where nature lowered yields on her own during flowering and berry set. Numerous bottles from even older vintages can still be found at Saziani, the estate's well-known restaurant …. Their Sauvignon Blancs are generally among my favorites in any given vintage …”
