"They are without a doubt one of the leading names in the whole of Argentina."
Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

"'At the end of the journey, we remember only one battle: the one we fought against ourselves, the original enemy, the one that defined us.'

This quote adorns every bottle made by El Enemigo, Spanish for 'The Enemy.' El Enemigo is a joint project between two great minds: Alejandro Vigil (who is also winemaking director at Catena Zapata) and Adrianna Catena (a historian and daughter of Nicolás Catena; the 2009 Decanter Man of the Year) .... [they have] zoned in on specific micro-climates which display unique terroirs within single-site vineyards at altitudes of up to 1,470 meters. None are more important than in Mendoza’s Tupungato sub-region of Gualtallary, where the calcareous soils are of oceanic origin. Here, high levels of sunlight and sunshine hours as well as a broad range of day and night temperatures allow the grapes to ripen fully while also locking in acidity levels. This results in plush but balanced wines."
Decanter Magazine
"The 2021 Chardonnay was phenomenal, way above the expectations for the price point. It was produced with pristine grapes from Gualtallary that in the cool 2021 vintage achieved 13.5% alcohol but kept a low pH of 3.05 and 7.7 grams of acidity.

It matured in oak barrels that were not topped up and let to develop a veil of flor. The barrels were 500-Liter ones, and despite 35% of them being new, the wine doesn't feel marked by the wood. It has the chalky texture of the limestone soils. Superb. This is a bargain that is approachable now, but it should also develop nicely in bottle."

Chardonnay 2021
100% Chardonnay grown in Tupungato, Gualtallary at 1,470 meters above sea level (4,822 feet) in deep calcareous and rocky soils; native fermentation; 12 months in French oak (sous voile)
‣ "A hint of flint and gunpowder with waxed lemon, oyster shell, mango and salted green apples. Quite a textured, saline expression of chardonnay with tangy flavors and a mineral drive. Full-bodied and reductive with phenolic support. Savory, saline and mouthwatering finish. Love the austerity here. Drink or hold."
