Jeffrey Grosset, crowned by Jancis Robinson as the "Australian King of Riesling," has been setting the bar for what is possible for this noble grape in Australia's Clare Valley. His greatest vineyard site, Polish Hill, is a certified organic site with a soil series comprised of silt, shallow shales and gravel all over ancient Blue Slate bedrock. This soil composition of primarily hard rocks contributes greatly to the complexity of the resulting wines as the vines' roots struggle greatly to get minerals and water, translating to small, concentrated berries and tight bunches. The result is a highly complex and age-worthy wine that is widely accepted as the greatest Riesling produced in Australia.
We were elated when Wine Enthusiast recognized the class of this wine in the exceptional 2018 vintage and placed it as the highest-rated white wine in their Top 100 2019 list.
