Husband and Wife team, Amy Christine MW and Peter Hunken are producing some of the best wines in the Central Coast today! Their house of brands is called Black Sheep Finds and Holus Bolus is one of their small négociant brands focusing on Rhône varietals, with Syrah being the majority of the production. They also have an estate project called The Joy Fantastic where they have Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay planted in the very western tip on the Santa Rita Hills. This low-yielding vineyard (usually around than 1 ton per acre) is planted right next to the world-famous Domaine de La Côte vineyard, and the wines being made from them are arguably the same quality at a fraction of the price.
Today, we are highlighting the Holus Bolus Syrah Presqu’ile Vineyard 2017 for $34.95 which is one of the most Côte-Rôtie-esque Syrahs we have had from California. Deriving from the exquisite Presqu'ile vineyard up in Santa Maria Valley, this cold-climate, old-world style Syrah is packed with smokey meat, white pepper, green olive, black raspberry and a plethora of savory herbs. This wine is just begging to be on your Thanksgiving table and will drink beautifully now, but will definitely stand the test of time with its excellent acidity and tannin structure. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a few bottles. You won't be disappointed.
