Camus-Bruchon Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières 2014 $39.95 "Les Lavières is one of my favorite terroirs in Savigny and Guillaume Camus’s 2014 version is going to be a stunning example. The vibrant nose offers up scents of red and black cherries, red plums, cocoa, chalky soil tones, a bit of pigeon, woodsmoke and a nice touch of violet in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off lovely depth at the core, with fine focus and bounce, a soil-driven backend and lovely focus and grip on the suavely-tannic and long finish. This will be very, very elegant . . .” 93 John Gilman, View From the Cellar
Camus-Bruchon Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons 2014 $44.95 "The 2014 Narbantons from Domaine Camus shows a touch of black fruit in its aromatics and flavors this year from its reduced yields, offering up a young and promising nose of black cherries, violets, pomegranate, gamebird, stony soil tones, woodsmoke and a topnote of Savigny spices. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with chewy, very well-integrated tannins, lovely focus and grip and a very long, primary finish. This is going to be outstanding . . .” 93 John Gilman, View From the Cellar
Chandon de Briailles Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières 2014 $45.99 "The bouquet is pretty and again, very red fruity in personality, as it offers up scents of red currants, cherries, woodsmoke, gamebird, fresh herbs and chalky soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and complex, with a currently quite wide open profile, a good core and a long, gently tannic and very elegant finish. This again seems likely to drink well in its youth . . . . Perhaps it will firm up with a bit more distance out from the bottling?" 91+ John Gilman, View From the Cellar
Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses 2014 $53.95 ". . . they were able to use 40% whole clusters for this wine in 2014. The wine has turned out beautifully and is very refined in this vintage, wafting from the glass in a blend of cherries, red currants, stony soil tones, venison, a touch of cinnamon and a bit of bonfire in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and focused beautifully, with a fine core, lovely, chewy and ripe tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish. This has really turned out beautifully and seems likely to be longer-lived than the Savigny premiers crus this year." 92+ John Gilman, View From the Cellar
Chandon de Briailles Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Valozières 2014 $64.95 “The fresh and ripe dark berry aromas display plenty of sauvage character as well as ample amounts of earth, humus and underbrush on the intensely floral suffused nose. There is excellent intensity and drive to the sleekly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that are shaped by robust but not hard tannins and outstanding length . . . . This is textbook Valozières and recommended . . .” 92 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
Chandon de Briailles Corton Les Bressandes 2014 $125.00 “The nose is really stunning, delivering a deep and pure constellation of red and black cherries, a touch of plum, gamebird, a complex base of soil, woodsmoke and a nice touch of youthful stems. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very mineral in personality, with a good core, ripe tannins and lovely focus and grip on the long and classy finish. Good juice here.” 93+ John Gilman, View From the Cellar
Chandon de Briailles Corton Les Maréchaudes 2014 $105.00 “. . . floral elements are evident. There is outstanding volume and good phenolic maturity to the round, velvety and overtly powerful middle weight plus flavors that possess a firm core of tannins on the mouth coating, dusty and impressively persistent finish. This is a serious Corton . . .” 90-93 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
Chandon de Briailles Corton Clos du Roi 2014 $149.95 ". . . a lot more nuance and precision . . . . The bouquet is quite beautiful and red fruity, offering up the full panoply of cherries, strawberries and red currants, to go along with notes of woodsmoke, Corton spices, venison, roses and a fine base of minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and nicely structured, with a fine core, ripe tannins and a long, potentially very suave finish . . . . one can see that this will be excellent." 93-94+ John Gilman, View From the Cellar
Chandon de Briailles Corton-Charlemagne 2014 $175.00 “A classic nose of green apple, citrus peel, white fruit and wet stone introduces racy, ultra-intense and almost aggressively mineral-driven flavors that . . . are a good deal finer and with better delineation on the hugely long finish.” 93 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
