| "On the basis of a single Philippe Collotte [wine] ... it was clear to me that his name belonged on the lengthening roster of Marsannay vintners seriously committed to quality, who as it happens are for the most part also proponents of organic viticulture and the rediscovery of early 20th century wine growing traditions."

| "The vineyards of Marsannay lie at the northern end of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, almost in the suburbs of Dijon, in the villages of Chenôve, Marsannay-la-Côte, and Couchey. The area gained its reputation early on for rosé but today is producing some of the best values for Pinot Noir in the Côte de Nuits .... Some of the best values in Marsannay hail from Domaine Collotte. The tall, lean Philippe Collotte, 47, took over 7.5 acres from his father in 1981. In the ensuing years, he built the Domaine to its current size of 12.5 hectares. Most of Collotte's parcels are in Marsannay, where he inherited old vines from his father..."

| | “It was at the 2006 Grand Jours de Bourgogne that I was looking for excellent Burgundies at equally excellent value. Marsannay came to mind as a good candidate . . . [and] I came upon Philippe Collotte. A tall, quiet man, but with a lot of passion to make superb wines just waiting to be unleashed. Producing lower yields, more selection before and at harvest, de-stemmed fruit, and, for us, he bottles everything unfiltered. His Bourgogne parcel was planted in 1947 and there are 5 parcels of 50+ year old vines in his super-value Marsannay Vieilles Vignes. Indeed all of the Marsannay single vineyard cuvées are of old vines. Tillage is all done by plowing, no chemical weed-killers are ever used, and the philosophy is that a lot of work in the vines promotes healthy grapes for excellent wine. Collotte's yields are well below the appellation's allowances. All fermentations are only done with indigenous yeasts . . . . The wines produced by the Collottes are some of the best kept secrets in our portfolio.”
