| “Tasting in this tiny cellar is always one of the highlights of my trips to Champagne. Vincent Laval crafts transparent wines loaded with class and personality. Laval brings his fruit in around 11-11.5%, quite high by Champagne standards. At those levels, wines do not require chaptalization. All of the wines are aged in oak. In fact, tasting here is not unlike being in Burgundy - especially when it comes to the scale, which is minuscule. These transparent, crystalline Champagnes are well worth the effort to find …. "Garennes is a multi-vintage solera-type blend featuring Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay from the villages of Chambrecy, Damery, Cumières, and Hautvillers. This ongoing blend is then blended with at least 50% of the current vintage base wine from the same plots and varietals. Notes of mineral, pear, and citrus on the nose lead into a wine with gorgeous balance and persistence. The sophisticated balance between precise mineral precision and fleshy texture make this a wine with few precedents in our experience."

GEORGES LAVAL
CUMIÈRES 1ER CRU BRUT NATURE 2020 "55% Pinot Noir, 10 Pinot Meunier, and 35% Chardonnay. Bottled in the spring after the harvest and aged in neutral oak for 6 months, it is then disgorged with no added sugar after 18 months and released shortly thereafter. Although due to the regulations in Champagne this is not technically a vintage bottling because it does not spend the required three years sur latte, this wine is never a blend of vintages. The year of harvest is revealed above as the last two digits in the item code. This is a blend of Vincent Laval’s south-facing premier cru vineyards in Cumières, just west of Epernay. Quite vinous in texture with no sweetness on the palate, the nose combines citrus, mineral, and just a hint of toast. Quite dry on the palate .... Ripe fruit is laced with scratchy mineral texture and long-term persistence. Like precious few Champagnes, this is a very serious wine that will reward, year after year, any cellaring that it is accorded."
